The law firm of Gross & Welch, P.C., L.L.O., initially known as Johnsen & Gross, is located in Omaha, Nebraska and was founded in 1927 by Daniel J. Gross and Judge Harvey M. Johnsen. For over 75 years, Gross & Welch has been recognized as a premier corporate and litigation firm in the region.

Judge Johnsen graduated from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 1919 and was admitted to the Nebraska State Bar during the same year. He became an associate justice of the Nebraska Supreme Court in 1939 and in 1940 to the 8th Circuit Court of the United States by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. His years in the practice covered nearly two decades and his years on the 8th Circuit Court spanned a period of 35 years.

Mr. Gross graduated from Creighton University School of Law in 1916 at the age of 19. He was the youngest graduate in the school’s history. From 1917 to 1920, he served in the United States Navy as Chief Petty Officer. He was admitted to the Nebraska State Bar in 1920 and practiced law in Omaha from 1920 to 1958. He was Vice President of the Nebraska State Bar Association and President of the Omaha Bar Association.

Harry L. Welch graduated from Creighton University School of Law in 1927, where he was president of his class. He joined Mr. Gross and Judge Johnsen in practice later that year. Mr. Welch was a noted Nebraska trial lawyer, a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers and president of the Nebraska and the Omaha State Bar Associations.

Over the years, members of the firm have served as president of many prestigious organizations, including the Nebraska State Bar Association, Omaha Bar Association, Nebraska Association of Trial Attorneys and the Nebraska Defense Counsel Association. The law firm is rated “AV” by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating that the independent directory bestows on law firms.
